Like the Golden Triangle, the Rajasthan circuit is another jewel in India’s tourism crown. A state whose tribal culture is deeply entwined with the nomadic ways of life, it has always welcomed travellers. You’ll often be greeted with the words, ‘Padharo Mhare Desh’, which means ‘Welcome to my land’.

What makes Rajasthan a bewitching experience is the fact that several of its important royal families are still active, of which some have opened up their palaces and forts to the public.

You will spend a fortnight completely immersed in this living history, imagining what was as you walk through opulent and ornate structures that housed India’s rajas (kings). You’ll begin in Jaipur, the Pink City, where the Amer fort and City Palace give you contrasting perspectives on the past and present. Explore Hawa Mahal, a palace facade well documented for its architecture and rose hue. Making the experience more immersive, you’ll stay at a heritage palace converted to a hotel, with an excellent terrace view of Amer Fort.

Next, head to Udaipur, the City of Lakes. Here, white marble palaces shimmer beside tranquil lakes. You can expect a sunset dinner with a panoramic view of the Aravalli hills for company. We’ll take a short break from the royal treatment and move up to Mount Abu, Rajasthan’s only hill station and home to the stunning Dilwara Jain Temples. Carved in marble, the intricate designs that make up the temple is something to behold.

We’ll then journey west to the golden dunes of Jaisalmer, where you’ll explore a living fort, marvel at intricately carved havelis, and spend an unforgettable night in a luxury desert camp complete with camel rides and traditional music beneath the stars. Next, you’ll visit the Blue City – Jodhpur, where the towering Mehrangarh Fort and the majestic Umaid Bhawan Palace offer glimpses into royal grandeur. You can also wander the blue labyrinthine streets or relax at your palace hotel. You’ll conclude your journey in Jaipur with a final indulgence of shopping or spa therapy.
