Tour Details
Whether it’s your first time in India or you’ve travelled these areas before, the Golden Triangle is an evergreen, timeless journey.
In Delhi, you’ll see the layers of ruin and rebuilding that has built this city from the ground up at atleast seven times in its history. Predominant in its fabric is the Mughal influence – from Humayun’s Tomb to Jama Masjid – but other cultural-religious influences are hard to miss such as the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and Lotus Temple.
There are also many museums you can visit if you’d like some time on your own in the city. The National Gallery of Modern Art will be like eating a slice of cake, discovering several flavours of the country’s make-up in one take. For a quirky short museum stop, try Shankar’s International Dolls Museum, a personal collection that offers a peek into the past and present of world cultures.
From the national capital, you will head to Agra that is situated on the banks of river Yamuna. Over two days, see one of the world’s most enduring symbols of love – the Taj Mahal – from different perspectives. Just as lovely is the Agra Fort, located across the river bank from the Taj. Built using red sandstone, like the Red Fort in Delhi, this monument will serve as a wonderful contrast to the forts you will see when you land in Jaipur, home of the Rajasthani royalty. But before you head to the third point of the triangle, you will also visit the twin cities of Fatehpur Sikri built by Akbar, the progressive Mughal king who created a new religion to ensure communal peace and justice.
In Jaipur, you will visit the City Palace, the residence of the current royal family, and see how the royals live. You will also visit the previous residence of the royal family – Amer Fort – from where Jaipur originally grew as a city. However, more than these locations, what will strike you most is Jaipur city itself, which has retained much of its old architecture, rendering a very quaint royal aesthetic. A walk through the bazaar will feel like being in a kaleidoscope of colours and traditional Indian patterns. You will be very tempted to shop here, so come prepared.
You’ll complete the triangle by travelling back to Delhi where you can have an easy last day either by visiting a local market or a museum.
For a well-rounded first experience of India, the Golden Triangle is a highly recommended circuit to hit. Even if you’ve already been, unless within the past two years, you will likely find this trip charming and satiating.
If you enjoy exploring – be it at a historical monument or museum or market – this is a good choice for you. Also ideal for photographers and large family groups.
